WINTER IN BORMIO: the top events of the season
Winter in Bormio is always a unique and exciting time of the year, with its rich program of events, suitable both for adults and children.
If you like to spend your winter holidays in Bormio, this is the program of events planned for our visitors:
3 December – opening of Bormio and S. Caterina Valfurva skiing season: snow, sun and fun… ready to ski?
7 December – planned opening of S. Colombano ski area;
8 – 11 December – Bormio Winter Feast, four days dedicated to fun, shopping, good food and music, featuring a rich program: White Night, Christmas markets, night skiing, Chocolate Streets and two musical nights with exceptional guests!
10 – 11 December – Cross country skiing European Cup in Valdidentro along the Viola run, perfectly prepared by the organizers with great commitment and dedication.
28 – 29 December – The traditional men’s downhill ski race of the Fis Alpine Ski World circuit in S. Caterina Valfurva.
31 December – New Year’s Eve celebrations to welcome the new year together, with plenty of music, warm tea or mulled wine, the traditional torchlight procession and fireworks.
2 – 4 January – EA7 Winter Tour, the top winter event involving some of the most exclusive skiing resorts, including our beloved Bormio.
28 January – Peak to Creek: the never ending downhill run. Amateur competition open to anyone with skies and snowboards starting from Bormio 3000 and ending in the centre of Bormio.
1 – 2 February – Bormio Palio delle Contrade, a local race started in 1963, one of the most loved traditions, consisting of a race involving the five neighbourhoods of the town. It is a downhill race held at night time where all the participants run wearing traditional costumes, divided by age groups.
7 – 10 February – Special Olympics Italia runs the 28th edition of the winter National Games.
Athletes compete in a wide range of skiing specialities – from cross country skiing to running with snow poles to snowboarding.
11 – 12 February – Ski Test DF Sport Specialist – During the two-day event, visitors have the opportunity to try out the best brands of skis for free. Alongside the competition, from 9am to 4pm, the village offers plenty of entertainment and interesting gadgets.
11 – 17 February – English Alpine Championships 2017, i.e. the English alpine skiing championships that each year attract athletes of all ages ready to compete in different disciplines: slalom, giant slalom and downhill races along Bormio ski runs
12 March – S. Caterina Winter Trail in Valfurva: running race on the snow along a 14- km trail.
25 – 26 March – Italian Cross Country Championship held in Valfurva along the Pista Valtellina.
16 April – Easter would not be Easter without the Pasquali! What are the “Paquali”? They represent a unique tradition and are floats on religion themes, built by local youngsters during winter and displayed in the morning of Easter day by young people wearing traditional costumes.
17 April – Closing of San Colombano skiing season.
20 – 23 April – 28th International Ortles-Cevedale Alpine Ski gathering, a classical event not to be missed by all alpine ski lovers.
23 April – “Sciare per la Vita” (Skiing for life) is a non-competitive charity event open to everybody. Reaching its 15h Edition and promoted by retired ski champions Deborah Compagnoni and Pietro Vitalini, the event is held to collect funds to be donated to institutions and associations operating in the research and treatment of blood cancers.
25 April – Closing of Bormio skiing season.
