BORMIO HOT SPRINGS: the ultimate in wellness and relaxation

Beside sports, Bormio is well known for its hot springs, which have received recognition for their curative properties since ancient times.

Bormio is therefore the ideal destination both for visitors looking for a relaxing weekend in the hot springs, to escape from their daily routine, and for people who want to take advantage of the many ski runs available in the area.

Bormio and its hot springs have been known since ancient times. They were mentioned by Pliny the Elder, in his book “Naturalis historia”, and later by Cassiodorus, the secretary of the emperor Theodoric, who praised their therapeutic properties.

Since Roman times, in fact, Bormio hot springs have been found to have muscle relaxing properties after a prolonged stay in their waters.

During the Middle Ages Bormio was a rich town, protected by sturdy walls, and was a major crossroad between the south and the north sides of the Alps.

This strategic position allowed Bormio to flourish into a wealthy town, thanks to its commercial trade and its famous hot springs.

There are currently three operational spa centres in Bormio: Bagni Nuovi, Bagni Vecchi and Terme di Bormio.
They are very different from each other both in terms of the services and performance they provide and their facilities and location. Taken together they are the ideal solution if you are looking for a perfect wellbeing weekend!

Despite their name, Bagni Nuovi (New Thermal Baths) date back to 1836 and have since been restored and were reopened to the public in 2003. They boast a smart liberty style setting and are located in Via Bagni Nuovi, on the main road to Livigno.
They are open every day from 11am to 8pm, Fridays and Saturdays until
11pm. Absolutely not to be missed!

Bagni Vecchi feature an older, more romantic atmosphere, since they date back to more than two thousand years ago and boast a unique and unparalleled setting. They are located in Via Bagni Vecchi, on the main road to Stelvio Pass, and are open every day from 10am to 8pm; on Fridays and Saturdays until 11pm.
Well worth trying is the Grotta Sudatoria, a natural steam room created in 1827, occupying two 50-metre-long tunnels dug out of the rock.

Terme di Bormio was opened in 1913 and is a very modern and super equipped wellness centre with relaxing areas, such as the scenic thermarium, as well as areas specifically designed for the youngest guests, featuring swimming pools and water slides.
We could even describe it a spa for kids or, better still, a spa centre suitable for the entire family!
